Donation to the District Hospital in Emmendingen

CARLO ERBA Reagents GmbH donates microbiological safety cabinet for Corona tests

The District Hospital in Emmendingen is pleased to have received a donation of a microbiological safety workbench worth 15,000 euros to carry out testing of corona samples and influenza samples in its in-house laboratory.

Since May 2020, samples from patients with a suspected highly infectious disease caused by viruses such as SARS-CoV-2 (pathogen of COVID-19), influenza or bacterial diarrhoeal pathogens can be tested in the in-house laboratory of Emmendingen District Hospital. This is possible thanks to the donation of a microbiological safety cabinet.

When the Emmendingen-based company CARLO ERBA Reagents GmbH learned of the Emmendingen district hospital's need at the Corona wedding in spring, it acted immediately. "As a specialist in laboratory technology and especially in safety cabinets, we would like to make our contribution in this crisis, especially regionally," explains Managing Director Sebastian Lamprecht.

Safer and faster

The SafeFAST Premium microbiological safety cabinet serves to protect people and products and ensures a germ-free working environment. A laminar air flow guides the air evenly through the workspace and then filters it, protecting staff and samples from contamination. SARS-CoV-2 belongs to risk group 3 and tests with this virus therefore require a high safety standard. The tests are carried out exclusively in this microbiological safety cabinet. This means that laboratory staff do not come into contact with highly infectious samples via the air. Another advantage is that the samples do not have to be sent to an external laboratory. The so-called PCR tests can deliver results within hours. Patients can thus be treated correctly more quickly and important isolation capacities can be released or created in a targeted manner in a timely manner.
